Weather in Greece

The weather in Greece  is very mind in general, a usual winter temperature is 8 Celsious about 44 Fahreneit and the temperature in the summer is usual about 35 Celsious or 93 Fahreneit.Bear in mind that if you see some minus celsius temperatures and low fahreneit ones or high temperatures in the summer (in the tables below) these are the minimums and maximum temperatures for a period of 20 years it doesn't mean that it always gets that hot or cold.
       Greece has a number of climatic regions, as far as concerns the weather, that each one displays similar characteristics. There is the Attica region which includes Athens and the nearby areas. Also the Cyclades region which gives fairly the same weather in Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Naxos,Ios, Andros, Tinos,Syros, Kea , Kythnos, Milos,Sifnos,Amorgos. Futhernore the Dodecanese region which gives fairly the same weather in Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Patmos ,Astypalea, Nisyros,Tilos. The NorthEaster Aegean island region which gives the same weather in Thessaloniki, Pelion, Lemnos, Chios, Samos , Lesvos, Chalkidiki, Skiathos, Skopelos. The Ionian islands weather which includes (Kerkyra), Zante (zakynthos), Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaka. Finally Crete region which gives the same weather in areas like Heraklion, Chania,Sitia, Ierapetra, Agios Nikolaos,Rethymno.            High season in Greece starts from late June until September, this period is the most crowded of the year. December to March is the coldest and wettest months with reduced public transportation and many closed hotels and restaurants. Spring from late April to May is one of the loveliest times to visit, sunny weather but not very hot. For a care free holiday adopt people's attitude of easygoing-ness and bear in mind that everything closes after lunch for a few hours. Tourist information is available at most places either in the form of EOT tourism offices (National tourism Organization) or local tourist police or travel agencies. Opening times tend to vary from place to place and season to season. State run museums open from 08.00 to 15.00; major museums stay open until 19.00. Mondays and main public holidays are closing times for the museums. The English language newspaper Athens News includes in their pages the events that take place all over Greece.
            In Greece there are organized tours that cater for many interests. The visitor can find options for art holidays, spa centers, conferences, bird watching, mountain biking, rock climbing, jeep tours, horse riding, river trekking, rafting, honeymoon vacations, canoeing, golf holidays and island hoping tours.
            There are also cruises and boat trips that run between April and October ranging from full luxury cruises to short boat trips. Thousands of beaches await you from May to October and any kind of water sports can be enjoyed.
 Beaches vary from volcanic rock to gravel to fine sand. Crete's beaches are mostly sandy. Sporades beaches (Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos) are a mixture of sandy and pebbly and this is true also for the Dodecanese (Kos, Rhodes e.t.c). Cyclades beaches (Paros, Naxos, Mykonos, Syros, Milos e.t.c) are mostly sandy. Santorini although part of Cyclades is volcanic, there for you can find pebbled beaches as well as volcanic sand ones. 
            There are hotels of any kind, any type of accommodation is available, hotels, rooms to let, villas, apartments, luxurious hotels and camping sites.
            As far as far as concerns water sports, recommended waters for windsurfing are around Corfu, Lefkada, Zakynthos (Ionian Islands), Lesvos and Samos (North East Aegean), Kos, Rhodes in the Dodecanese and Naxos, Paros, Mykonos in the Cyclades. Also last but not least the coast around Crete around Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Lasithi. Many of the beaches in all these places all over Greece offer tuition and rent equipment. Snorkeling and scuba diving can be enjoyed everywhere. There are diving schools in many beaches. Sailing holidays can be booked through yacht charter companies, the season runs from April to the end of October.

BALOS CHANIA CRETE

========== Balos beach: It is located 60 km north west of Chania town; it is one of the nicest beaches with white sand and emerald waters. This beach is accessible by bad truck road from Kaliviani near Kissamos, there is also access by excursion boat by Kissamos.

 

LEFKADA PORTO KATSIKI

Porto Katsiki beach: it is located 45 km south west of Lefkada town. It is a long beach of small rounded peddles, sand colored. There is a car parking and a cantina near the beach. The road to the beach is narrow and there are several steps that need to be descended to get to the beach. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island, impressive sceneries, it is very popular and it is frequented by thousands. There are also taxi boats to get you there from Vasiliki and Nydri.

 

NAVAGIO ZAKYNTHOS

Navagio beach: it is located in the North West part of Zakynthos. It is a very famous beach; the remains of a ship are buried in the sand. You can expect emerald waters. The beach can be accessed with tourist boat that leaves every hour from Porto Vromi.

 

AGIOS PROKOPIOS NAXOS

Agios Prokopios beach: it is located 6km west of Chora. It is one of the best beaches of the island. There are water sport centers as well as tourist facilities by the beach. The beach is partly organized. There is a small village nearby with hotels, restaurants, Cafes and bars.

 

KOUKOUNARIES BEACH SKIATHOS 

Koukounaries beach: This is one of the most famous beaches in the Mediterranean. It is located 13 km southwest of the town of Skiathos. The famous pine trees forest is located there. The pine trees reach until the shore break. There are sea sports facilities by the beach. The forest is 145,000 square meters. In this area also the Strofilia Lake is located with a total area of 95.000 square meters. The lake is a place for migratory birds and it belongs in Natura 2000 network.

 

SUPER PARIDISE BEACH MYKONOS

Super Paradise: it is located 7 km to the southeast of Chora. It is next to paradise beach, nice sand, less organized than paradise beach. It can be accessed by local bus and water taxi from Platys Gyalos. The beach is popular to homosexuals. Very busy during high season, can get really overcrowded.

 

MYRTOS KEFALLONIA

Myrtos beach: it is located 30 km north of Argostoli. It is world wide known for its beauty and cleanness. Impressive cliffs form a bech of white peddles and emerald waters, accessed by Bus, well organized, big waves when windy.

 

PERISSA SANTORINI

Perissa beach is situated 15 km south east of Fira. The most impressive feature of the beach is its unique volcanic black (grey) sand. It is a long beach and many hotels, rooms, taverns, restaurants and bars and nightclubs can be found there.

 

VAI BEACH CRETE

It is a beach by a palm forest, the unique palm forest in Europe. The beach is open from sunrise to sunset and several cafes can be found on the spot. It is a wonderful sandy beach.

 

PRASSONISI RHODES 

Prasonisi beach: It is located 85 km south of the city of Rhodes. It is a paradise for windsurfers. The waters are emerald and you can find there two sandy coves that end in an island. There are plenty of windsurfing rental facilities.
