Even in the antiquity Kefallonia was famous for its distinct products, especially its wine. Among the many varieties produced, Robola wine has been acknowledged for its outstanding and rich taste as one of the best Greek wines. Other characteristic products of Kefallonia include extra virgin olive oil, thyme honey and delicious feta cheese. The island is also known for its delicacies such as Aliada, a special dip made of garlic and potatoes, Strapatsado, made of eggs and tomato, delicious meet pies and green pies. There is also a variety of sweet delights such as Bobota (baked cornmeal) and wine must puddings, Mandoles, Nugat and Pasteli based on honey sugar and a variety on nuts and seeds.
