Syros winnery & gastronomy

Syros cuisine is affected by the Asia Minor as many locals are descended from this area. The unique strapatsada (scrambled eggs with tomatoes peppers and feta cheese), the sausage, Halvadopita, a cake filled with almonds and nougat, and Loukoumia, the primary export of Syros, which is a sweet gummy dessert flavored with roses and pistachio are local delicacies that travelers should taste. Another local product is the Tahini, a sauce made from sesame, which is used on bread or with honey. Syros Island also produces dairy products like the local cheese Saint Michali and Kopanisti, a spicy cream cheese. Finally, a real delight is the liquor ‘Grand mother’, a mixture of cherry spices and brandy.
