You can get to Syros Island by plane and by ferry. Early booking is recommended (especially for airplane reservations as there are two routes per week from Athens airport and lasts 35 minutes). There are a lot of boats in the summer as Syros is in the same line with Mykonos and Tinos. Getting to the Island by ferry, the trip duration is approximately 4 hours from Piraeus port. People can use ferries and get to Syros Island via the Islands of Mykonos and Tinos. Concerning the local transport there are many choices. All the villages have a regular bus connection and the service is good. Buses circle the southern half of the Island in summer and the bus stop in Hermoupolis is at the pier. You can get from Hermoupolis to Talanta, Galissas, Finikas, Dellagrazia, Megas Yialos, Vari. Tourists can always rent a car (prices start from 25 euros per day) or motor bike.
