The mixing of animal products and agricultural local products along with the earthenware of Sifnos has led to the creation of a unique gastronomic tradition. Mastelo (lamp placed inside earthenware which is placed inside a traditional oven), revythada (Sunday meal also prepared in the traditional oven). There are also local cheese types such as manouri and xynomyzythra along with chickpea balls and capper salad all comprise a mixture of tastes. Also in the field of confectionary one can find almond and honey based pastries (amygdalota, melopittes) and many more sweets called bourekia, pasteli, kouloures. Sifnos is the birthplace of the great mentor of modern cuisine Nikolaos Tselementes.
