Ios Island has no airport which means that it can only be reached by sea. Getting to the Island by ferry, the trip duration is approximately seven hours and thirty minutes & four hours and thirty minutes by catamaran from Piraeus port. The cheapest solution could be the ferry deck ticket otherwise reaching Ios Greek Island by catamaran would raise transportation costs. Tourists can use ferries or catamarans and get to the party Island via nearby Islands such as Paros, Naxos, Santorini, Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Folegandros and Sikinos. Early booking is recommended as Ios Island is on the same ferry route with Paros, Naxos and Santorini Cycladic Islands.
Concerning the local transport, bus services are well organized and the tickets are cheap. There are daily bus departures (Tel. 0030-2286092015) (departs every 15 minutes daily and until fairly late at night) from the port to Yalos, ‘Chora’ and Milopotas. There is an hourly service between Yialos and Koymbara. Taxi could be another transportation solution as there are several taxis operating out of Chora, Mylopotas and the port. You can make a price arrangement for trips to beaches and organize pick –ups to get you back to your hotel. (Tel. 0030-2286092015). Car hire is not essential on Ios but if you do hire a car, the main road runs from Koumbara to Mylopotas via Yialos with a branch north to Agia Theodoti. Drink driving is common so take care driving at night.
