Chania Beaches

   As far as concerns Chania beaches      elafonisos-chania    Elafonissi beach: It is located 86 km south west of Chania town. It can be reached by boat from Paleochora. It is a very popular site during the busy period in August. You can expect pink and coral sand, emerald waters whilst camping is allowed and there are some cantinas available.

Balos beach: It is located 60 km north west of Chania town; it is one of the nicest beaches with white sand and emerald waters. This beach is accessible by bad truck road from Kaliviani near Kissamos, there is also access by excursion boat by Kissamos.

Falasarna beach: It is located 58 km west of Chania town. It is near Platanos village, it has soft white sand and umbrellas that can be rented. You can find some taverns and accommodation facilities nearby, access by car.

Platanias beach: It is located 11 km west of Chania town. It is a long and sandy beach with bars and cafes and good night life. You can access it by bus (route from Chania to Casteli). This beach is not meltemi proof and therefore it is affected by the strong northerly winds.

Stalos beach: It is located 7 km west of Chania town. It is a long and sandy beach, it is quite popular but it also has its quiet areas. There are sports facilities by the beach and there is nightlife in the village nearby.

Kiani akti beach: It is located 17 km south of Chania town. It is a well organized beach close to Lalyves.

Georgioupoli beach: It is located 37 km south of Chania town. It is a long sandy 9 km beach on the way to Rethymno. It is a very popular beach but with some very quiet spots. Sea sports, beach bars and taverns are all in hand there, access by public bus. Not a meltemi proof beach.

Germaniko Pouli beach: it is located 2 km west of Chania town. It is a large and sandy beach, organized with accommodation facilities, there are also some taverns and cafes, it can be accessed by public bus.

Golden beach: It is located 1 km of Chania town. Golden beach consists of 3 sandy beaches with shallow waters. They are organized beaches; also there are sea sports available and they can be accessed by public bus.

Kalathas beach: It is located 15 km north east of Chania town. It is well organized, there are accommodation facilities as well as diving options and there is also one tavern. This beach gets very busy, The film Zorbas was filmed there.

Kolimbari beach: It is located 24 km west of Chania town. It is not sandy and it has a beautiful stone made café. It can be accessed by public bus and there are plenty of fish taverns there.

Marathi beach: It is located 14 km east of Chania town. It is a well organized sandy beach, there are some sea taverns available whilst it is meltemi proof, it is good for families also and it has a port with excursion boats.

Agia Marina beach: It is located 9 km west of Chania town. It is a long sandy beach. The beach has beach bars, taverns, sea sports and access by public bus. There are also organized camping in the area.

Agioi Apostoloi beach: It is located 3 km west of Chania town. It is a very popular and crowded beach. It is well organized whilst there are many taverns, beach bars and water sports available. The beach is meltemi proof. Not to mention that there are accommodation options and bus service in hand.

Drapanias beach: It is located 35 km west of Chania town. It is not a sandy beach but it is a peaceful spot good for families.

Finikas beach: It is located 80 km south of Chania town. This beach is accessed by boat or by walk from Loutro. It is a 35 minutes walk. Ideal for snorkeling. It is not an organized beach.

Frangokastello beach: it is located 80 km south of Chania town in front of the homonymous Venetian castle. It is an organized beach with fish taverns and small hotels.

Gialiskari beach: It is located 80 km south west of Chania town. It is an organized beach, it is not sandy and it is close to Paleochora.

Glyka Nera beach: It is located 73 km south of Chania town. It is an isolated beach, nudism and free camping is allowed there. It can be accessed by truck road or by boat.

Grammeno beach: it is located 75 km south west of Chania town. It is a long sandy beach, partly organized. It can be accessed by car, it is close to Paleochora.

Kalamaki beach: it is located 7 km west of Chania town. It is a sandy organized beach and it gets crowded often.

Kalyves beach: It is located 20 km south of Chania town. There are some taverns as well as accommodation in the village nearby; the beach which is right at the end of Kalyves village is very popular.

Kissamos beach: It is located 41 km west of Chania town. It is a sandy beach organized and it has some quiet spots. There are fish taverns and hotels available there.

Koutelos beach: it is located 75 km south of Chania town. The beach is not sandy and it is also not organized. It is very peaceful.

Krios beach: It is located 70 km south of Chania town. It is not sandy, it is partly organized and it has a small beach bar.

Loutraki beach: It is located 12 km east of Chania town. It is close to Marathi village. This beach is meltemi proof. Accomodation and taverns can be found in Marathi. The waters of the beach are shallow making it an ideal beach for families.

Nea Chora beach: It is located 1 km west of Chania town. It is a walking distance from city center, it is a well organized beach, there are cafes, taverns and accommodation facilities.

Orthi Ammos beach: It is located 70 km south of Chania town. It is close to Francocastello. In order to access it you will have to walk for 15 minutes. It is a sandy beach and it is nudism tolerant.

Pachia Ammos beach: it is located 80 km south west of Chania town. It is a very beautiful beach which is very popular and it is close to Paleochora. The waters are deep and it is an organized beach.

Sfakia beach: it is located 72 km south east of Chania town. It is not sandy and it is next to Sfakia village. It is an organized beach with small hotels and restaurants nearby.

Sfinary beach: it is located 60 km south west of Chania town. It is not sandy and it is a quiet beach. There are rooms to rent and fish taverns, it is not meltemi proof and camping is permitted.

Souda beach: it is located 7 km east of Chania town. It is a sandy organized beach and it is pretty popular, there are plenty of taverns in close vinicity.

Sougia beach: it is located 70 km south west of Chania town. It is close to Agia Roumeli. It is a beach which is 1200 meters long, it is not sandy and nudism is allowed. There are good restaurants and taverns in the village of Sougia.

Stavros beach: it is located 20 km north east of Chania town. It is a sandy organized beach which has some taverns and some bars. This beach is one of the locations where the movie Zorba the greek was filmed.

Tavronitis beach: it is located 20 km west of Chania town. It is not sandy, but it is organized and quiet whilst there are some taverns available. It is on the road to Kissamos.

Tripiti beach: It is located 70 km south of Chania town at the end of Tripiti village. It can be accessed by truck road, it is not organized and it can offer total privacy.

Votsalo beach: it is located 70 km south of Chania town, it is not sandy and accommodation is available there. Votsalo is a small beach with trees that provide shade to the swimmers.
